“For me, it’s that I contributed… That I’m on this planet doing some good and making people happy. That’s to me the most important thing, that my hour of television is positive and upbeat and an antidote for all the negative stuff going on in life.” – Ellen Degeneres
I am a fan of Ellen Degeneres. I subscribed to her YouTube channel and liked her Facebook page. I follow her on Twitter and watch her show, “Ellen”, religiously. You are probably thinking that I have an unhealthy obsession with Ellen. That’s because I do – but I am not alone! Ellen attracts 3.5 million viewers daily to her talk show and has garnered over 25 million followers on Twitter. There is no doubt that Ellen leads a successful career as a comedian and TV personality, but what many people may not know is that her heart is as big as her smile.
Ellen has worked with several different charities that focus on a number of issues: anti-bullying, animal rights, international development, and cancer research. She uses her talk show as a platform to raise awareness and funds for organizations such as (RED)Rush and the American Red Cross. Ellen was also named by Forbes as one of the Most Powerful Women Philanthropists.
I admire Ellen not only because she makes me laugh uncontrollably, but because she is compassionate and genuine. Ellen is a woman in a male dominated field that has found success without having to compromise her innate kindness. She stays true to herself.
Don’t forget to tune in to ABC TV on March 2nd for the 86th Academy Awards – someone super cool will be hosting. (Psst… It’s Ellen!)
